Fred Samuel had a passion for pearls, and from the early days of his career, he sought out, studied and selected the world’s most beautiful pearls, even giving his name to nacre, a creamy beige shade.
In 1991, Fred Samuel started a love affair with colored precious gemstones, which were seldom used by jewelers before then. He created jewelry made with multicolored sapphires, ingeniously combining amethyst, tourmaline, peridot, and diamonds. One of his greatest creations would be called the “Rainbow”.
This unique item was made in 1984 using a private collection of 42 colored acquired by Fred. It would be beginning of a series of jewelry in pink, blue and yellow diamonds. Fred Samuel broadened the scope of materials that could be used in jewelry, marrying fantasy with innovation. He combined steel cables with gold cables, pearls with gold, and grey gold and yellow gold with enamel.
